OGURUGU YOUTH CORP MEMBERS' COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICES (CDS) 2024: A CALL TO ACTION FOR REPOSITIONING OGURUGU COMMUNITY FOR DEVELOPMENT AND POSTERITY
Address by Reverend M.N. Nkwachukwu during Ogurugu Youth Corp members' Community Development Services (CDS) on June 22, 2024, at Emmanuel Anglican Church Premises in Ogurugu, Uzo Uwani LGA, Enugu State.
With deep humility, joy, and profound gratitude to the Almighty God, I stand before you today. I appreciate the rare privilege of addressing this great body, which incubates exceptional men and women. I send warm greetings to our indefatigable and result-oriented leaders, led by HRM Emmanuel Egwuaba, the traditional ruler of Ogurugu community, and Mr. Denis Ubah, the president of the Town Union Ogurugu Community. The Women Association, Ogurugu Copper Association, and Odinala have demonstrated inspirational guidance and sterling leadership, contributing to the community's success.
I thank all distinguished members, patriotic juggernauts, corporate bodies, and organizations that have played a crucial role in achieving this success. A society's growth is measured by the greatness of its elders who plant trees, knowing they shall never sit under its shade. That is the hallmark of generational success.
Before proceeding, I make a clarion call for the need to reinvent the future blueprint of Ogurugu community and reposition it for posterity. We need a think-tank team to study and dissect areas like politics, history, participation in government, administration, and sustainable survival strategies. With numerous talents and great people from Ogurugu, it is essential to ask why no son or daughter has become a minister, Vice-Chancellor, or ambassador.
The formation of the Ogurugu National Stakeholders Forum will provide a platform for brainstorming challenges and finding lasting solutions. The forum will focus on arts, culture, education, politics, economy, security, and information technology. We must come up with a clearly defined vision and a 10-year educational developmental plan to remain relevant in the 21st century.
Part of the strategy involves using technological dynamics and information communication technology to evaluate cultural heritage and boost beneficial aspects of tradition. The document will articulate an economic and educational blueprint for attracting local and foreign investors, fast-tracking job creation, and modernizing the town.
Substantial inputs from Ogurugu Youth, Odinala forum, Ogurugu Woman Association, Ogurugu Lawyers Forums, Igwe, and his Cabinet, Town Union, and other relevant groups are crucial to achieving a viable blueprint and other relevant groups are crucial to achieving a viable blueprint. I believe various sub-committees have been set up to examine specific areas of our existence as a community. I urge each committee to return to their drawing board, identify crucial problems in their domain, especially regarding education and industrialization, and bring them to the table for brainstorming.
For instance, in Ogurugu Community, we can evaluate the impact of education on underdeveloped communities using Ogurugu as a case study. Education is a fundamental right and an essential tool for shaping societies. However, Ogurugu community faces challenges like teacher shortages, struggles to attract and retain teachers, and a nonchalant attitude towards education from teachers, students, and parents. Access to education can be limited due to poverty, lack of infrastructure, and inadequate resources.
Despite these challenges, education's importance in Ogurugu community cannot be overlooked. I invite you all to join this insightful journey and contribute your ideas to help conclude this address. Thank you.
Rev. M.N. Nkwachukwu
